Palm Oil Manufacturing
Project Overview
In the village of Odobeng in central Ghana local farmers are being empowered to refine the raw palm fruit grown by their neighbors thanks to an iF Foundation initiative. The workers are now able to mill the locally grown palm fruit into palm oil which is used in cooking, to make soap and for commercial purposes. They will also be processing palm kernel oil to ensure that none of the harvested fruit goes to waste. The milling process is intense. First the workers must strip the palm fruit from the trees, steam the fruit, extract the sap from the steamed palm fruit, remove the solid particles from the sap using an oil clarifier and then store the oil in drums. The milling process for the palm kernel oil includes additional work; cracking the palm kernel nut to obtain the palm kernel, roasting and pressing the palm kernel and then filtering the oil into the final form for sale.
The iF Foundation is currently seeking funding to underwrite the cost of the equipment for the palm kernel oil processing. If you are interested in this wonderful investment opportunity please send an inquiry to espencer@if-foundation.org . Your investment in this palm oil manufacturing project will enable the palm fruit farmers to sell more of their produce, stimulating the local economy. It will also provide new jobs and income for those who will be processing the palm fruit into oil. This project will have an impact on the entire village of Odobeng through commerce and agriculture helping to create a sustainable pathway out of poverty for families living in rural Ghana.
