The Village of Akrusu Saisi – Fishing Boat Project
Akrusu Saisi is located in the eastern region of Ghana. The village boasts a beautiful pastoral setting on Lake Volta, the largest man-made lake in Ghana. Lake Volta is stocked with large numbers of tilapia and mud fish. In rural fishing villages in Ghana it is ironic and tragic that struggling fishermen are surrounded by bountiful waters but lack the boats and equipment necessary to support their families. The iF Foundation is asking you to consider partnering with us on one of our many exciting projects focused in Akrusu Saisi, empowering the families with the tools they need to create economic stability for their village and to improve livelihoods. Providing seaworthy boats, reliable 25 hp outboard motors , fishing nets, life vests and other equipment necessary for the fisherman is critical to the successful outcome in stabilizing the economy in Akrusu Saisi. Currently there are 4 new fishing boats in the water. The fishermen rotate use of the boats and equipment maximizing their ability to make a living by fishing. There is an opportunity to fund 6 additional fully loaded fishing boats. Your generosity will enable the fishermen of this village to carry on their fishing heritage in support of their families, creating for them the chance for a livelihood and clear pathway out of poverty. By putting more boats in the water, the fishermen of Akrusu Saisi will catch a more bountiful harvest. In addition, you will also be providing the people of Akrusu Saisi with a long term nutritious food source that will benefit the health of their children and facilitate the well being of the entire community.
