Lighting a Pathway Out of Poverty

In Grison Garde, Haiti there is no electricity so a local candle making business has the potential to have a positive impact on the local economy and provide families the opportunity to grow out of a life of poverty into economic independence. The group members are all women making the candles using a manual, wooden candle press and molding machine. The women melt the paraffin, pour the wax into the mold, cut each wick and release the candles by hand. The candles are good quality and with no local competition and their product in high demand, these hard working women are determined to reach their economic potential and create a brighter future for their families.
